“No matter how slow the film, spirit always stands still for the photographer it has chosen “.
- Minor White

Ever since I threw a professional photographer’s camera into a river when I was two, I’ve been playing with cameras and loving the view through the lens. I haven’t hurled a camera since, but I have had some great gear pass through my hands over the years.

The view above our house in Drumnacool.

My personal favourites were my Bolex film camera, spring wound with no battery. The film camera they took to the moon. Zeiss lenses. What a machine.

Then there was the Hasselblad. The still camera they took to the moon. If I had to replace my eyes, this camera would have done the job. Pure magic. Loved the compositional challenge of the square negatives.

The iconic Benbulben coated with a rare snowfall.

I don’t use flash, choosing natural light alone because that’s where spirit is more likely to stand still (hopefully) for this photographer.

I loved having the darkroom experience but have grown accustomed to the wild abandon that digital photography provides. I’m still looking for the perfect digital workflow that will help to organise, edit, tag and sync my work online. If you have found it, let me know.

In terms of my work online, it all started on my first trip to Ireland and Paris in 1993, which led to the development of Light, Body, Soul in 1995; a collection of photos documenting many megalithic sites around Ireland. This site led to my photos being published in the Parisian newspaper Le Figaro and on the back cover of Dublin Foundation by Edward Rutherfurd.

I’ve kept the name for the new Light, Body, Soul site, as it still embodies what I’m about as a photographer.

I’m putting the finishing touches on a photography blog, but there are a few pics up on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/verticalbones. You’ll need to excuse all the Guinness shots. ;-)

    Moving images Justin Knight.
The world needs more immersion in beautiful images, sounds, designs and strategies to see it through the coming decade of darkness, chaos and war and help it come to terms with limits.
    Respect.
