Considering Gabe went from never having seen a Gaelic football, to starting for his team that made it to the semi-finals in his league; it wasn’t a huge surprise he was given one of two year-end awards for football at his school. Gabe was one win away from becoming the first American (according to his headmaster) to play gaelic football at Markievicz Park in Sligo, though a badly played first half led to an eventual 5-11, 4-7 defeat to Achonry.
