Sky+ (the equivalent to TiVo here) leads to some strange combinations, so we sat through the 1997 Radiohead documentary,
Meeting People Is Easy, followed by Monty Python’s Life of Brian. Meeting People Is Easy was shot during the OK Computer Tour. This is a seminal album and a desert-island disc for me. The film paints an unflinching and realistic portrait of life on the road, alone in hotel rooms and burned out on endless, insipid interviews. What rock life is really like, thankfully punctuated by passionate performances.
I suppose there are many out there ready to bitterly disagree with me, but contrary to almost all public opinion, I don’t think Life of Brian is Monty Python’s best work, in fact I would rate it third behind Holy Grail and Meaning of Life.
The documentary on the making of the film was fantastic, particularly the protests that surrounded the release of the film. Biggus Dickus indeed.
