*Spoilers* OK, so I didn’t say a thing about the iPhone (which may be because they aren’t in Europe) so I will blog about the final episode of The Sopranos (delayed as well for an Irish release.) Somehow, I managed not to know how the series ended, except some rumblings of “controversy” and that Hillary Clinton had done a parody.
I think the ending was perfect, though like millions of others, I initially stared at the black screen and said “Wha?!” A bad ending would have been everything wrapping itself up into a nice little box. I think a real ending would have left all the fans disappointed that Tony was dead, or arguing over why so-and-so lived and so-and-so didn’t. In this case, the ending was whatever you wanted it to be and the finale continued to “upend traditional television conventions” and used the medium to its fullest. David Chase had you in the palm of his hand the whole time …

While I’m not a follower of The Sopranos, I do watch the Law and Order series (the normal one, Criminal Intent, and SVU) all the time. I’m not sure if they’re available where you are.. but they’re known for their open-ended endings.
One ending I remember in particular is an SVU case where it was a case of “he said, she said” all the way through the trial. You don’t know who was actually “right”, and just when the jury was about to pronounce a verdict.. “We find the defendant…” the screen faded to black. It was up to the viewer to come to their own conclusion. That was a great episode.
I’ve always thought it would be itneresting to read a book written in first person where it just ends abruptly because the main character gets killed…

People forget how groundbreaking Hitchcock’s Psycho was when it came out. There was a film where the “main” character died toward the beginning of the film.
Your book idea is brilliant. You should write it!
We do get Law & Order over here, though I have to admit I’ve never followed it.

I’m another fan of the Sopranos ending. What a suprisingly perfect way to go.
