One Hal of a Trip

1 April 2007 · 2 Comments

It’s been quite some time since I had seen 2001: A Space Odyssey, considered by some to be the best science fiction film of all-time. Regardless of whether it deserves that pronouncement or not, the special effects look great today and must have been simply amazing when it premiered in 1968. As a film, it’s influence has been felt in nearly any modern film about space.

You’ve got to appreciate the vision, as well as the unbearable pace of the film. You are meant to feel the excruciating increments of time. The scenes leading up to HAL’s termination are some of my favorites, especially his/its rendition of Daisy when the plugs are being pulled.

I recorded the sequel for tonight, which I saw in the theatre, but never watched them back-to-back.

Really interesting re-arrange of my poem. . . I didn’t mind it at all . . . I think it’s part of the beauty of words how they can be re-arranged and finessed. Your more involved thought process on it brought a level of refinement that my after-midnight rambling didn’t capture, and I think that’s pretty neat.

    Ditto – on both films…
