If I have been enjoying one thing thoroughly, it is the quality of content on the radio here. Actually the quality of content in general, whether it be the papers, television, etc. You could easily do with the four national TV channels and live happily. The public supports countless papers and the coverage of culture in the Sunday Times (an Irish edition UK paper) puts most art magazines to shame. (The market penetration for daily newspapers runs at 190% and 350% for Sunday titles. For comparison, US newspaper market penetration is only 51%. Wikipedia)
Coming from a nation of 300 million where a “steady diet of nothing” is the norm, I feel spoiled for choice in a nation of 4 million.
RTE Radio 1 is on the majority of the time. Two shows in particular have become regular favorites, The Tubridy Show (picture Charlie Rose with a sense of humor and no air of self-importance) and Sunday Miscellany, a collection of read memoirs, story, poetry and music selections. Amazing. Do yourself a favor and have a listen.
