We broke ground on the vegetable garden this afternoon.
Lisa instructed me on how to properly cut a ridge of potatoes as passed along by Thomas O’Gorman in Crusheen. You essentially score two strips of soil and fold the soil (grass and all) into the center as if on a hinge. You are left with troughs on the outside that keep the plants off the ground. Lay a bit of manure. Plant your taters. Cover with more soil from the trough.
It was a gratifying piece of work and hopefully I won’t be too crippled in the morning.
