Firenze!

26 October 2006 · No Comments

To describe Florence as beautiful is an understatement. I am staying at the Hotel Silla on the south side of the Arno River. Took a walk this morning and watched the sun rise over the river and took a stroll to the Santa Croce before leaving with the group. Beyond beauty, my next two impressions are scooters and doors. Traffic is mad here, and the doors with their ornamental knockers slow down any walk.

(I’ve posted a few more key pics in More Pictures.)

We had lunch in the hills looking down on Florence and sampled meats and wines from the area. I’m feeling a bit spoiled. The business conference we were having was my first experience of wearing a headset so all the Italian was translated into English. Still, the majority of people speak good English. I feel a bit embarassed that Americans are typically monolingual.

No joy getting on the Internet at the Hotel. The broadband gods have either singled me out, or are sending me a message. I’ve resorted to my warrior set-up at London Gatwick.
