Gabe starts school on Friday. Today we met his headmaster, John Hughes (NOT the film director, but could you imagine?), who will also be teaching the sixth class. He is a hulking man, well over six feet, but with a gentle and charming countenance.
The Geevagh National School is in the next town over and the good news is that there is a bus. The school itself was built in 2002 and is a very modern “three-room” facility. Apparently they have a reputation for athletics and Gabe will be introduced to a number of gaelic sports, including hurling and gaelic football, in addiiton to rugby, soccer and basketball.
There is also a national film project, sponsored by the Department of Education. We viewed a past submission from the school, which was a pretty significant production. Gabriel is excited to be involved with the project this year. And … they will have John Hughes as a consultant.
We also went into Sligo to pick up his uniform and books. It is a pleasure that we only have one outfit to buy!

Wow! 96 students – that’s incredible. Good luck Gabe!
